York Minster is the largest medieval Gothic Church north of the Alps. It is a prime example spanning from Roman remains in the foundations through its time as a Norman Church and of course the 250 year period it took to complete. The Minster also offers amazing views from the Tower, spectacular stained glass and audio tours of the Undercroft.(Allow 2-3 hours with audio tour and Tower).Guided tours can be taken and last around an hour.

Exploring Roman York wouldn't be the same without taking a walk on York's Bar Walls. Dating back to Roman times and originally built as defences, the walls have been added to and rebuilt over time and now have parts from across the centuries. The walls also offer superb views of the city. (Allow 2 hours). Try the stretch from Bootham Bar to Monk Bar - you will not be disappointed.

The Vikings have become a reason in their own right to visit York. Visit the Jorvik Viking Centre and discover the Viking settlement found by archaeologists. Reconstructed and based on real artefacts discover the complete Viking experience including sounds and smells from 1000 years ago.

Delve into York's past with a trip to the fascinating Castle Museum. The museum of social histry and everyday life features Dick Turpins prison cell, York's most famous Victorian Street, Roomsets from Jacobean to the 1980's, Fashion and Textiles, Toys through the ages and military history.

The National Railway Museum, complete with a brand new wing called "The Works". You will find all the classics here from the Mallard, to Queen Victoria's Royal Carriages to modern day examples such as Eurostar.
